Introduction
UMS @Maine.edu email can be accessed using any standard Internet email client.  UMS mail servers fully support SMTP with IMAP or POP protocols.
Below are general client configuration instructions, as well as visual guides on configuring popular mail clients.

General Configuration Instructions
To connect to UMS mail servers your client must support SMTP and POP or IMAP protocols.  You should use mail.maine.edu as both your incoming and outgoing mail server.
Incoming Mail Settings
Mail Protocol: IMAP or POP (See Mail Client Protocols for details)
Incoming Mail Server: mail.maine.edu
Username and Password: Your UMS Username and Password
SSL Enabled: True
Outgoing Mail Settings
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.maine.edu
Server Requires Authentication: True
Username and Password: Same as Incoming
SSL Enabled: True
Visual Client Configuration Guides
ITS provides setup instructions for the following popular mail clients.  If you are unsure about which email client to use, ITS recommends the use of Mozilla Thunderbird.
